Morning

A Prayer for Stronger Faith

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.

That is the most honest prayer I have, so I am starting there. Some days my faith feels solid under my feet. Other days it feels like fog — I reach for it and my hand closes on nothing. You know which kind of day this is.

I am not asking You for proof. I am asking You for faith, because You are the one who gives it. I cannot grit my teeth and manufacture trust any more than I can will myself to sleep. But You can grow it in me, the way You grow everything — quietly, underground, over time.

So water whatever seed of faith is still in me, Lord. Even if it is the size of a mustard seed, You said that was enough to work with.

When I read Your Word, let it read me. When I pray into silence, remind me that silence is not absence. When my doubts speak loudly, help me doubt the doubts too — they have been wrong before.

Remind me of Your track record. You have carried me through things I was sure would end me. I forget that with embarrassing speed. Give me a long memory for Your faithfulness and a short one for my fears.

And on the days I cannot hold on to You, hold on to me. My faith may be weak, but the One I have faith in is not. That has always been the point.

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Evening

An Evening Prayer to Close the Day

Father, the day is done, and I bring it to You — all of it.

Thank You for carrying me through it. For the mercies I noticed, and the many I didn't: the meals, the safe travel, the words that came when I needed them, the trouble that never arrived.

Where I did well today, it was Your grace. Thank You. Where I failed — and You and I both know where — forgive me. The sharp word, the shortcut, the kindness I skipped because I was busy or tired or just didn't want to. Wash it clean. Let me start tomorrow unburdened.

If I hurt anyone today, mend what I can't see, and give me the humility to make it right tomorrow. If anyone hurt me, help me set it down tonight. I don't want to carry it to bed.

Now quiet my mind, Lord. The day's leftover noise is still ringing in my ears — conversations, worries, the list of things undone. The undone things will keep. You never sleep, so I can.

Watch over my home tonight and everyone in it. Watch over the ones I love who are far away. Be near to those who have to work while the rest of us rest, and to anyone for whom tonight is long and hard.

Into Your hands I place this day, finished, and tomorrow, still unopened. I trust You with both of them. Give me rest tonight — and if You wake me in the morning, I'll thank You then too.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
