Morning

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Father, I come to You today not to ask for anything, but simply to say thank You.

Thank You for this life — for breath in my lungs, for the morning light, for water and bread, for sleep at the end of a long day. These are such ordinary gifts that I forget to notice them. Let me notice them now.

Thank You for the people You have placed around me: for family, for friends, for the kindness of strangers, for every hand that has helped me when I could not help myself. I did not walk this far alone. You know the names. Bless each one of them tonight, wherever they are.

Thank You for the hard things too — the closed doors that kept me from the wrong road, the lean years that taught me to lean on You, the prayers You answered differently than I asked, and better than I knew.

Thank You most of all for Your mercy. You have been patient with me when I was slow to learn, faithful to me when I was faithless, and near to me when I felt farthest away. Nothing I have was earned. All of it was given.

So take my thanks, Lord — small as it is next to everything You have done. Make me a grateful person, not just today but every day: quick to notice, quick to thank, quick to share. Let gratitude be the air I breathe and generosity be what it becomes in my hands.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Evening

A Bedtime Prayer Before Sleep

Father, the day is over and the bed is ready. Before I sleep, I put myself back in Your hands — the same hands that held me all day long.

Thank You for everything today held, and for getting me through the parts I didn't think I'd get through.

Forgive what needs forgiving. I don't want to sleep on an unconfessed heart. You know my failures better than I do, and You are kinder to me about them than I am.

Bless the people I love — each one, by name, in my heart. Keep them through the night.

Now, Lord, let me sleep. Not the thin sleep of a worried mind, but the deep sleep of someone who knows the door is locked, the night is watched, and the One keeping guard never closes His eyes.

Into Your hands I commit my spirit — tonight, tomorrow, and always.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
