The Grace — A Closing Blessing

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

About This Prayer

Known simply as "the Grace," this is the final sentence of Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, and Christians have used it to close worship for nearly two thousand years. In one short line it names the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and asks the best of each — grace, love, and communion (that is, fellowship and closeness) — for everyone present. In many churches and small groups it is spoken together, often with eyes open, each person praying it over the others.

When to Pray This

Pray the Grace to close anything you have opened in God's presence — a service, a Bible study, a meeting, a family gathering, a phone call with someone far away. It is short enough to say by heart and wide enough to cover everyone in the room.
