A Prayer Before a Big Decision

Lord, a decision is in front of me, and it is too big for a coin flip and too heavy for another sleepless night. So I set it down here, between us.

You already know what I should do. I am not informing You of anything. I am asking You to let me in on it.

Clear the fog, Lord. Show me the facts I have been avoiding and the fears I have been obeying. Send me counselors who love me enough to disagree with me, and make me humble enough to ask them.

If this path is wrong, unsettle me now, while turning back is still cheap. If it is right, give me that steady, quiet peace that does not depend on everything going well.

And when it is time to choose, deliver me from endless stalling dressed up as prayer. Deciding is also an act of trust. Whichever way I go, Lord — go with me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this while the decision is still open — before the offer expires, before the papers are signed. Then do the ordinary things: get the facts, ask wise people, sleep on it. God tends to guide through those, too.

A Verse to Hold On To

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." — Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
