A Prayer for Hard Times
Lord, these are hard times, and I will not pretend otherwise. You already know, so I will say it plainly: I am worn down. I am worried. Some mornings it takes everything I have just to begin.
I do not come with polished words. I come the way a tired person comes home — because there is nowhere else I would rather be, and no one else who can hold all of this.
Be my strength, because mine is running low. Not strength for the whole year, or even the month — just strength for today. You have taught me that Your grace comes like manna, enough for each morning, never early, never late. Help me trust that rhythm instead of resenting it.
Give me wisdom for the decisions I cannot avoid. Show me the next right step — only the next one — and give me courage to take it. Where a door needs to close, help me let it close. Where I need to ask for help, take down my pride.
Guard my heart from despair, Lord. Hard times tell loud lies: that nothing will change, that I am alone, that this struggle is all there is. Answer those lies with Your quiet truth — You have carried me before, and You have not put me down.
And even now, keep my eyes open for the good: the friend who checks in, the small mercy in a heavy week, the sunrise that arrives whether I feel ready or not. Hard times are real, but so are You, and You have the longer history of being faithful.
Stay near, Lord. That is my deepest prayer. Whatever else these days take from me, they cannot take You.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in any long, grinding season — illness, money trouble, family strain, or plain exhaustion. It works morning or night, and it bears repeating daily until the season turns.
