A Prayer for Finding a Job

Father, I need work. You know how long I have been looking, how many applications have gone out into silence, and what each "no" — or no answer at all — takes out of me.

Lead me to the right work, Lord. Not just any paycheck, if it can be helped, but work I can do honestly and well, work that provides for the people who count on me. Open the doors You want open, and give me peace about the ones that stay shut — some of those closed doors will turn out to be mercies.

In the meantime, keep me steady. Guard me from the quiet shame that creeps in, the feeling that I am worth less because I am between jobs. That is not how You measure a person, and I know it. Give me discipline for the search itself: the resumes, the follow-ups, the asking around, and the humility to take help when it is offered.

When an interview comes, calm my nerves and let me be honestly, fully myself. And provide for us while we wait, Lord — our daily bread, one day at a time.

I put this search in Your hands, and I will keep working as if the answer might come tomorrow.
