A Prayer for a Mission or Business Trip

Lord, this trip is not a vacation — it is work You have given me, and I want to do it well.

Travel with me through the security lines and the rental car counters, the name badges and the long days. Keep me sharp in the meetings and honest in the deals. If I am going to serve, give me humble hands; if I am going to speak, give me true words.

Guard my heart while I am away from home. Hotel rooms can be lonely places, Lord — keep me faithful in the small hours, faithful to the people I love and to the person I am when they can see me.

Bless the ones I meet along the way: the tired traveler in seat 14C, the front desk clerk on the night shift, the people this trip is actually for. Let me leave every place a little better than I found it.

Do the work You sent me to do, Lord — through me if You will — and then carry me home.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this the night before you leave, while the suitcase is still open on the bed. It also fits well in those quiet minutes in the hotel room before the first meeting, when it's just you, the coffee maker, and God.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established." — Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)
