A Prayer for My Daughter's Protection

Father, watch over my daughter. You never sleep, and some nights, because of her, neither do I. So while I'm awake anyway, I'll pray.

Protect her body, Lord — walking to her car, out with her friends, in every place I've never seen and every situation I'd never have chosen. Give her sharp instincts and the confidence to obey them, even when it's awkward, even when it offends. Let her never trade her safety for someone's approval.

Protect her mind from the quiet attacks — comparison, cruelty dressed up as comments, the whisper that she isn't enough. She is more than enough. You made her; I've met her.

Protect her heart from people who would use her kindness against her. Give her eyes to see character early, and courage to walk away from anyone who makes her smaller.

Where danger comes near her, stand between. Where I would panic, You are already present. I hand her to You again tonight — the safest hands there are.

When to Pray This

Pray this when she heads out for the night, moves to a new city, or anytime the worry rises and there's nothing practical left to do. This is the practical thing to do.
