A Prayer for My Son

Father, thank You for my son. From the first time I held him, I understood something new about how You love us. He has my heart walking around outside my body — so I bring him to You, the only One who can watch over him everywhere at once.

Protect him, Lord. Guard his body from harm and his mind from despair. Keep him safe on every road, in every crowd, in every choice made when no one is watching.

Shape his character. Make him honest when lying would be easier, kind when the crowd is cruel, brave enough to stand alone if he has to. Give him work he can pour himself into and the humility to keep learning all his life.

Choose his friends with him, Father — real ones, the kind who steady a man. And in time, if it's Your will, lead him to a love that makes him gentler and stronger at once.

Where I have failed him — and I have, in my human ways — cover my gaps with Your grace. Let him remember the love in this house louder than its mistakes.

Most of all, keep him close to You. Long after he stops needing me, he will still need You. Let him know You not as a rumor from his childhood but as the living God who walks with him.

I release him into Your hands again today — the same hands that formed him. He was Yours before he was mine.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
