A Prayer for My Son's Protection

Father, keep my son safe today. That's the prayer under all my other prayers, the one my heart says even while I sleep.

He goes where I can't follow now — down roads I've never driven, into rooms I'll never see, among people I haven't met. But there is nowhere he can go that You are not already there. So go with him, Lord. Stay with him.

Protect his body — in the car, at school or work, in every game, every job site, every late night. Protect his mind from the darkness that stalks young men quietly. Protect his spirit from voices that would tell him he is worthless, or that wrong is fine as long as no one finds out.

When danger comes near him, turn it aside. When temptation dresses up as a friend, open his eyes. Give him instincts that flinch at the wrong path and courage to walk away from it — even at the cost of looking foolish.

I can't shield him anymore, Lord. You never stopped. I trust him to You tonight, and every night.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when he leaves the house, when he's traveling, or on the nights he's out and you're watching the clock. It turns the pacing kind of worry into something you can actually do.

A Verse to Hold On To

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." — Psalm 91:11 (KJV)
