A Prayer for My Son's Faith and Future

Father, when I think about my son's future, my imagination runs ahead of my faith — planning, worrying, rehearsing. But his future isn't mine to build. It's Yours. So I'm bringing it back to You.

First, Lord, his faith. Let it become truly his — not a hand-me-down from our house, but a living trust he'd hold even if we'd never taught him. Let him wrestle with his questions honestly and find You solid at the bottom of every one.

Then, his path. You've planted things in him — I've seen them: the way his eyes light up at certain work, the things he can't not do. Lead him toward the life those gifts were made for, even if it looks nothing like what I pictured. Open the doors that are Yours and let the others close without breaking his heart.

Give him patience in the waiting years, courage at the crossroads, and a heart that checks with You before it leaps.

I can't see his future, Lord — but You're already there. That's enough for me tonight.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the turning points — choosing a school, a career, a place to live — and in the long quiet stretches between them. It's especially good for the years when his faith is becoming his own.

A Verse to Hold On To

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." — Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
