A Prayer After a Breakup
Lord, it's over, and it hurts more than I expected.
I keep replaying the conversations, looking for the sentence that would have fixed it. Take that loop out of my head, Father. Some questions are not going to get answers, and I need Your help to live with that.
The quiet is the hardest part — the good-morning text that doesn't come, the songs I have to skip, the plans that dissolved for weekends that used to be spoken for. Fill that quiet with Your presence, because right now it is filled with them.
Keep me from the things that feel like relief but aren't — the late-night message I'd regret, the checking of their page, the rehearsing of blame. Give me the dignity of healing slowly and well.
Thank You for what was good; I don't have to burn it all. And thank You, in advance, for what I can't see yet: the person You are still making me into, on the other side of this.
One day at a time, Lord. Start with this one.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in the first hard weeks after a breakup — especially at night, when the silence is loudest. There is no set timetable for getting over someone; pray it as many days in a row as you need to, and let a good friend or counselor help carry it too.
A Verse to Hold On To
