A Prayer of Thanks for Our Home

Father, thank You for this home.

Thank You for a roof when it rains and a light in the window at dusk. Thank You for the kettle and the couch, the full drawers and the familiar creaks, and a bed that is ours at the end of the day.

So many people are longing tonight for exactly what we walk past without noticing. Forgive us for calling it ordinary. Keep our door open and our table generous, so that the comfort You gave us doesn't stop with us.

Thank You, Lord. It is so good to be home.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the dinner table, on a quiet evening when the house feels especially dear, or on the anniversary of moving in. It's a good one to pray aloud with children, adding thanks for their favorite corners of the house.
