The Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

Amen.

When to Pray This

These four lines, widely attributed to the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, have steadied millions of people — in recovery meetings, hospital hallways, and quiet kitchens at 2 a.m. Pray them slowly, one line at a time, whenever you are carrying something you cannot fix. Many people pray it every morning; others save it for the moment a situation slips out of their hands. It is short enough to memorize today.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself." — Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
