A Prayer for Anxiety

Father, my mind has been running all day, and it is not running anywhere good. The same worries, around and around, louder every lap. I can't out-think them. So I'm bringing them to You.

You said to be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer, with thanksgiving, to let my requests be made known to You. So here they are, Lord — the real ones, by name: the money. The health. The family. The future. The one I keep at the bottom of the pile because it scares me most. You know it. Take that one too.

In exchange, You promise peace — not the kind that comes from having answers, but the kind that passes understanding and stands guard over hearts and minds like a soldier at the gate. Post that guard tonight, Father. My gates are tired.

Slow my breathing. Unclench my hands. Remind my body what my soul is learning: that I am held, that You are awake, so I don't have to be the one keeping watch.

Thank You for every good gift You use to quiet a mind — for friends who listen, for rest and sunlight, for doctors and counselors whose skill comes from You. If I need that kind of help, give me courage to seek it, and let me hear Your kindness in it.

I will probably pick these worries back up tomorrow. When I do, remind me where they belong, and I will hand them over again — as many times as it takes, because You care for me, and Your patience outlasts my fear.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when worry has been circling for hours and you need somewhere to set it down — at night especially. If anxiety is a daily companion, prayer and a good counselor or doctor work beautifully together; this prayer is meant to sit alongside that help, never replace it.

A Verse to Hold On To

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7 (KJV)
