A Prayer for Mental Health

God of all comfort, You know my mind better than I do. You know the thoughts that circle and will not land, the heaviness that arrives without a reason, the effort it takes some days just to seem fine. I am not hiding any of it from You now.

I do not come with tidy words. I come tired, and You have said the tired may come.

Steady what feels unsteady in me. Quiet what is loud. Lift what is heavy. Where my own thoughts speak harshly to me, let Your voice be the one I believe — the voice that calls me loved, kept, and known.

Thank You for every good gift You have already given: for people who check on me, for counselors and doctors who understand the mind, for medicine and rest and daylight, for every small mercy that gets me to evening. Help me receive help without shame, because asking for help is not weakness — it is wisdom.

I do not ask You to make me someone else. I ask You to walk with me as I am, through the good days and the gray ones, and to keep healing me at Your pace, in Your kindness.

When I cannot hold on to You, hold on to me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on the days your mind feels like a hard place to live — or on ordinary days, as a way of keeping honest with God. It sits well alongside counseling, medication, and rest; prayer and professional care belong together, not in competition. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time, day or night.

A Verse to Hold On To

"The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." — Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
