A Prayer for a Heavy, Dark Season
Father, this has gone on longer than I thought I could bear. Not one bad day, but a season — weeks that blur together, mornings that feel like the same morning, a weight I put down at night and pick back up at dawn.
I have prayed for it to lift. It has not lifted yet. And still I am here, praying, because I have nowhere better to take a heart this tired.
You never promised me a life without valleys. You promised You would walk through them with me. So I am asking You to keep that promise now — not from a distance, but here, in the kitchen at 2 a.m., in the car before work, in the silence where I keep wondering how long.
Teach me to live faithfully inside a hard season: to do the next small right thing, to eat, to sleep, to answer the phone, to let people love me badly and well, to say "I'm not okay" to someone safe.
Guard me from the lie that this darkness is all there is, or that it came because my faith was too small. You do not send storms to punish the weary. You sit with the weary until the storm passes.
And when this season finally breaks — because seasons do break, Lord, even this one — let me come out of it softer, not harder. More patient with other people's valleys. More sure than ever that You never once left.
Until then, give me this day. Only this day. You and I will deal with tomorrow, tomorrow.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in the middle stretch of a hard season — the part where the casseroles have stopped coming and the struggle has become ordinary. It is a prayer for endurance, not a demand for a date when things improve. If the heaviness deepens into hopelessness or thoughts of suicide, tell someone today, and call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
A Verse to Hold On To
