A Prayer for a Lost Pet

Lord, somewhere out there tonight is a small animal that belongs at my house, and I can't stop checking the yard.

You know exactly where it is right now. Under what porch, behind what fence, down which road it wandered too far. Nothing is lost to You.

Keep it safe, Father — from cars and cold, from other animals, from every danger it doesn't understand. Let it find water. Let it find shelter. Let it hear something familiar and turn toward home.

And put kind people in its path: the neighbor who checks the tag, the stranger who stops instead of driving on, the shelter worker who scans for a chip. Bless every pair of eyes that's helping us look.

Steady my heart in the waiting. When I've searched every street I can think of, remind me that Your eyes go where mine can't. Not one sparrow falls to the ground without You knowing, Lord — so I know You see my small friend tonight.

Bring it home. And until then, watch over it for me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this while you search, between phone calls to shelters, or last thing at night when there's nothing more you can do until morning. Keep doing the practical things too — flyers, neighbors, local groups — and let the prayer hold your hope steady in between.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father." — Matthew 10:29 (KJV)
