A Prayer of Thanks for a Beloved Pet

Father, thank You for this animal.

Thank You for the welcome at the door that never once has been halfhearted. Thank You for the company on ordinary evenings, the head on my knee when I've had a hard day, and the pure, uncomplicated gladness of a creature that is simply happy I exist.

You didn't have to make the world this way — with animals that attach themselves to us and teach us something about faithfulness. But You did, and I'm grateful.

Help me care for this pet the way You care for me: patiently, reliably, and with delight.

Thank You, Lord, for such a good gift.
