A Prayer for a Sick Pet

Lord, You made this animal, and You made me the one who loves it. So You understand why I'm praying tonight about a creature who can't pray for itself.

You know this little one completely — the way it waits for me at the door, the warm weight of it against my leg, the trust in its eyes even now, when it doesn't understand why it hurts. That trust undoes me, Father. It is looking to me, and I am looking to You.

Ease its pain, Lord. Whatever is wrong inside that small body, You see it plainly, down to the last cell. Bring rest tonight, appetite tomorrow, and strength coming back day by day.

Guide the veterinarian and the clinic staff. Give them sharp eyes to find the problem, good judgment for the treatment, and gentle hands for a frightened animal. Thank You for people who spend their lives caring for creatures who can never say thank you.

And steady me, too. I feel a bit foolish being this worried — then I remember that not one sparrow falls without You noticing. You count sparrows, Lord. You are not too busy for this.

I place this beloved animal in Your hands, the same hands that made it. Whatever these next days hold, help me give it what it has always given me: presence, comfort, and love without conditions.

Your tender mercies are over all Your works — and this is one of Your works, asleep beside me now. Be merciful to it, Father.

Pray this in the waiting room at the vet, the night before a procedure, or beside your pet's bed when it can't settle. If you're unsure how serious things are, calling the vet is part of loving your animal well — pray, and make the call.
