A Prayer for a Healthy Pregnancy

Father, You are knitting a life together right now, in a quiet place where no one else can reach. Before we ever saw a heartbeat on a screen, You saw this child completely.

Watch over this pregnancy, Lord. Guard every tiny, forming thing — the heart finding its rhythm, the lungs getting ready for their first breath, the small hands and feet we cannot wait to hold.

And watch over the mother who carries this child. Give her strength on the tired mornings, peace on the nights when worry keeps her awake, and patience with a body that is working so hard. When she feels sick, ease her. When she feels afraid, remind her that You do not sleep.

Feed this child through her, Lord. Bless the meals she manages and the vitamins she remembers, and let everything this baby needs arrive right on time, the way You planned it.

Bless every appointment along the way. Give wisdom to the doctors, midwives, and nurses; let every checkup bring good news, and if concerns arise, let them be caught early and met with skill and calm.

Lord, we will not pretend we hold tomorrow. But we know who holds it. So we place this little one in Your hands — the safest hands there are — week after week, month after month, until the day we finally see the face You already know by heart.

Thank You for this gift we did nothing to deserve. Carry them both, Father — mother and child — all the way home to a safe delivery.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at any point in pregnancy — the day the test turns positive, the night before an ultrasound, or any ordinary evening with a hand resting on a growing belly. It can be prayed by the mother herself, or by a husband, grandparent, or friend on her behalf.

A Verse to Hold On To

"For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:13–14 (KJV)
