A Father's Day Prayer

Father in heaven, today we thank You for fathers on earth.

Thank You for dads who stayed, who worked, who showed up — who taught us to ride bikes and tell the truth, who said "I love you" out loud, or said it their own way: with time, with sweat, with a hand on the shoulder at the right moment.

Bless every father today. Give the new dad confidence, the tired dad strength, the single dad help and honor, and the grandfather the joy of seeing his love multiply. Bless too the men who fathered us without the title — the coaches, uncles, mentors, and friends who stood in the gap and stood there well.

And Lord, be near to those for whom this day aches: the ones missing a father who is gone, the ones whose father was absent or unkind, the men who long to be fathers and wait still, the fathers separated from their children today. You are close to all of them, a Father to the fatherless, as You have always been.

Like as a father pities his children, You have pitied us — patiently, faithfully, forever. Make every father more like You, and draw every heart here closer to home.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on Father's Day — at the grill, around the table, or in a quiet moment if the day is complicated for you. It honors dads without pretending the day is easy for everyone.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." — Psalm 103:13 (KJV)
