A Prayer Before Chemotherapy or Radiation

Lord, I'm on my way to treatment again. You know how I feel about this place — grateful for it and weary of it at the same time.

Go in with me today. Sit beside me in the chair. Be in the room where the machines hum, and in the bag of medicine, and in the beam of light. What science aims at the cancer, aim true, Father — let it do its work and spare as much of the rest of me as possible.

Bless the nurses who will find my vein, the technicians who position everything just so, the doctors reading numbers I've learned to read too. They fight for me every time. Strengthen them.

When the side effects come, give me patience with my own body. It is doing its best. So am I.

One more treatment, Lord. One more step through this, with You.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the car before you walk in, or quietly in the infusion chair or on the table. Some patients pray it every single session, and the repetition becomes its own comfort — a way of marking that God attends every treatment with you.
