A Prayer for Someone in the Hospital

Father, someone I love is lying in a hospital bed tonight, and I am bringing them to You by name. You know the room number, the chart, the diagnosis. You knew before any of us did. Nothing about this has caught You by surprise, even though it has knocked the wind out of us.

Be close to them in that bed, Lord. Hospitals are strange places — bright lights and beeping machines, kind strangers and long, uncertain hours. When they feel small in that big building, remind them they are not lost in the system to You. You call them by name.

I ask You for healing — humbly, holding nothing back and demanding nothing. Touch their body with Your restoring hand. Ease the pain. Grant sleep at night. Give them strength for each treatment, each test, each small step back toward health.

Bless the hands of everyone caring for them: the doctors weighing decisions, the nurses at the bedside through the night, the aides, the techs, the ones who clean the room and bring the trays. Give them skill, attention, and gentleness, for they are Your answer to many of our prayers.

And hold the rest of us, Lord — the ones in the waiting room and by the phone, refreshing messages and trying not to imagine too much. Give us calm hearts, honest hope, and grace to take this one day at a time.

We trust You with what we cannot control, which is nearly everything. Be our peace inside these walls.

When to Pray This

Pray this when someone you love has been admitted to the hospital — before a visit, on the drive home, or in the middle of the night when worry wakes you. It works just as well prayed over yourself if you are the one in the bed.
