A Prayer Before Surgery

Lord, in a little while they will take me back, and there is nothing more I can do to prepare. So I do the one thing that is still mine to do: I put myself in Your hands.

Calm my heart in these last waiting minutes. You know the fear I've been carrying, the what-ifs I keep turning over. Take them from me now. Trade them for Your peace.

Bless my surgeon and everyone in that room. Guide their hands, sharpen their eyes, and give them wisdom for anything unexpected. Thank You that their skill is a gift from You.

Watch over the people who love me while they sit and wait for news. Comfort them, Lord. Waiting can be the hardest room in the hospital.

Bring me safely through this surgery. Let it go well, let it do its work, and wake me gently on the other side — still held, still Yours, already healing.

Pray this in pre-op, in the car on the way to the hospital, or the moment the date gets scheduled. Many people pray it with a nurse or family member holding their hand.
