A Prayer for Recovery After Surgery
Thank You, Lord. The surgery is over. Before I ask for anything else, I want to say that first: thank You for bringing me through.
Now the mending begins, and I ask for Your help with it. Knit together what the surgeons repaired. Let the incision close cleanly, the swelling ease, the pain grow quieter each day. Guard me from infection and complications, and let every follow-up bring good news.
Give me patience for this part, Father. Recovery is slower than surgery, and I am not good at being still. Help me follow my doctor's orders even when I feel fine — to rest when I'm told to rest, and to do the exercises when I'd rather not.
Bless the people taking care of me at home. Give them strength, and give me grace to be cared for.
Day by day, make me stronger, until this whole season is just a story I tell about the time You carried me.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in the first days after an operation, whenever pain or impatience flares. It's also a good prayer for family members to read aloud at the bedside.
A Verse to Hold On To
"O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me." — Psalm 30:2 (KJV)
