A Prayer for a Loved One in Surgery
Father, they just took someone I love through those doors, and I had to let go of their hand. I cannot follow them into that room — but You can, and You already have.
Stay beside them through every minute of this surgery. Keep their heart steady, their breathing easy, their body strong under the surgeon's care.
Guide the whole team, Lord. Give the surgeon clear eyes and sure hands. Give the nurses attentiveness, the anesthesiologist precision, and all of them wisdom the moment they need it.
And be with me out here in the waiting room. Every time I check the clock, remind me You are not anxious. Every time my mind runs ahead to the worst, walk it gently back to You.
Let the next news we hear be good news. Bring them back to us safely, and let the healing start today.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in the waiting room, or anywhere you're keeping vigil from afar. Praying it each time the worry surges — rather than just once — is exactly how it's meant to be used.
A Verse to Hold On To
"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee." — Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
