A Prayer for Someone in the ICU

Lord, the one I love is in intensive care, and everything in me is holding its breath. The monitors, the tubes, the numbers on the screens — I do not understand most of it, and I cannot control any of it. So I am giving it to You, the only One strong enough to hold it.

Stay beside that bed, Father. Whether they are awake or sedated, aware of the room or somewhere deeper, You can reach them where none of us can. Speak peace to them there. Sustain every breath, steady every heartbeat, and be at work in ways no monitor can measure.

Bless the ICU team, hour by hour and shift by shift. Give the doctors clear judgment at every decision point. Give the nurses sharp eyes and steady hands — they are watching over the one I love when I am not allowed to. Thank You for them.

I will not pretend I am not afraid. But I would rather be afraid in Your hands than calm anywhere else. Hold us both, Lord — the patient and the one who prays.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the ICU waiting room, during the few minutes visiting hours allow, or at home between phone updates. Critical illness runs in hours, not days — so pray it as often as the fear returns. God does not tire of hearing it.
