A Prayer While Waiting for Scan Results

Lord, the scan is done. Now comes the waiting, and the waiting is its own kind of hard. My mind keeps writing both versions of the phone call.

The results already exist, and You already know them. Nothing in that report will surprise You, and nothing in it can separate me from You.

So while I wait, hold me still. When my thoughts run ahead to the worst, walk them gently back to today — where there is breakfast, and sunlight, and You.

Whatever the news, we will face it together. Until then, let me live these days instead of just enduring them.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the gap between the scan and the results — the stretch some patients call "scanxiety." Pray it as many times a day as the fear returns; there is no limit. It also fits the wait for biopsies, blood work, and follow-up calls.
