An Advent Prayer of Waiting

Lord, teach us to wait.

The world around us is rushing — lists to finish, lights to hang, places to be. But Advent asks something different of us: to slow down, to watch, to hope.

So quiet our hearts, Father. In these weeks before Christmas, make a little silence in us where Your promise can be heard.

Your people waited long for a Savior — through years of silence, they kept watching the horizon. Give us that same patient hope. When our prayers seem slow to be answered, remind us that You are never late, and that what You send is always better than what we imagined.

Prepare us, the way a family prepares a home for a guest. Sweep out what does not belong. Light what has gone dark. And when Christmas comes, let it find us ready — not with perfect houses, but with open hearts.

We wait for You, Lord, and in Your word we hope.
