A Prayer at a Hospice Bedside

Father, this room has become holy ground. Time moves differently here — measured not in appointments and errands but in breaths, and visits, and small mercies. Be present in it, as You have promised to be.

Give Your beloved one comfort in body, quietness in mind, and the deep assurance that they are safe with You. Nothing is asked of them anymore, Lord — no striving, no bravery, no performance. Only rest, held in Your everlasting arms.

Thank You for the hospice team who serve in this place: for nurses who ease pain with skill and patience, for aides who bring dignity to every small task, for chaplains and social workers who tend the unseen wounds. Their work is quiet and heavy and beautiful. Bless them for it, and renew them daily.

And hold this family, Lord, living inside a long goodbye. Give them courage for the hard hours, rest when their bodies demand it, and peace that does not depend on how today goes.

Pray this during a hospice visit — when you arrive, before you leave, or in the quiet middle of a long afternoon. It can be spoken softly aloud even if your loved one seems unaware; presence and prayer both reach further than we know.
