A Prayer for First Responders and Those Who Serve
Lord, tonight while most of us sleep, someone is answering a call.
We pray for the first responders — the police officers and firefighters, the paramedics and dispatchers, the nurses in the emergency room, the search-and-rescue crews, everyone whose job is to run toward what the rest of us run from.
Protect them, Lord. Be their shield on dark roads and in dangerous doorways. Bring them home safe at the end of every shift.
Steady their hands and clear their minds in the moments when seconds matter. Give them courage for what they must face and comfort for what they cannot unsee. Heal the quiet wounds this work leaves behind, and give them people to talk to and rest that truly restores.
Bless their families, too — the ones who wait up, watch the clock, and share their loved one with a whole community.
Thank You for them, Lord. Let them feel appreciated today — and let it start with us.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this when a siren passes, when your community faces an emergency, or on days that honor those who serve. If a first responder is part of your family or church, pray it over them by name.
