A Prayer for Buying a Home
Lord, we are looking for a home, and we want You in the search from the start.
You know the listings we've scrolled past midnight, the open houses, the almosts, the offer we're afraid to make and the one we're afraid we already lost. You know our budget better than our lender does. This is one of the biggest decisions we will ever sign, and we don't want to make it on our own.
Give us wisdom that outweighs wishful thinking. Open our eyes to what matters and what doesn't — to see past staging and paint to what a house would really ask of us. Guard us from stretching further than we should just because the market is loud and our patience is thin. If a door needs closing, close it firmly, even if we sulk a little on the drive home.
And Lord, keep our hearts level. If the right house comes quickly, make us grateful. If the search runs long, make us content in the meantime — because home was never really the walls. It's the people inside them, and You among us. Whatever address we land on, let it be a place where Your peace lives too.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the start of a house hunt, the night before making an offer, or while waiting to hear back. Couples can pray it together; it works just as well for a first apartment as a forever home. Contentment either way is the real request — the house is secondary.
A Verse to Hold On To
"Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." — Psalm 127:1 (KJV)
