A Prayer for a Sick Parent

God of all comfort, my parent is sick, and I feel like a child again — small, and needing help. So I come to You the way I once ran to them.

Lay Your hand where the illness is. Ease the pain, calm the fear, and bring rest tonight where rest has been hard to find. If it is Your will, Lord, bring healing — and whatever comes, do not let go of them for a moment.

Bless the doctors and nurses. Give them wisdom, skill, and kindness, and let every treatment do what it was made to do.

Be with me too. Steady me in the waiting room and on the phone calls. Help me show up, speak gently, and trust You with what I cannot control.

They took care of me all my life. Now, Father, take care of them.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the hospital hallway, in the car before you walk in, or at home when the distance feels unbearable. Pray it as many times as you need to — God does not tire of hearing about someone you love.
