A Prayer for My Mother

Lord, thank You for my momma. Thank You for her hands — the ones that cooked and cleaned and folded and fixed, long after she was tired. Thank You for her voice, the first one I ever trusted.

Today I ask You to take care of her the way she has always taken care of everyone else. Guard her health. Quiet her worries. Give her deep sleep at night and something to laugh about during the day.

She has carried so much for so many. Let her set some of it down now, Lord. Let her feel that she has done well, that her love landed, that none of it was wasted.

And on the days I can't be there, stay close to her for me. Bless my mother, today and all her days.

When to Pray This

Pray this on your mom's birthday, on Mother's Day, or any night you find yourself thinking of her. If she is still with you, consider praying it and then telling her you did — it may mean more to her than any gift.
