A Prayer for My Brother or Sister

Father, I want to pray for my sibling today — the person who has known me longer than almost anyone.

We shared a childhood no one else remembers the same way: the same kitchen table, the same backseat, the same jokes that still only we understand. Thank You for that. It's a rarer gift than I admit.

You know where things stand between us now. Maybe we're close, and I just want to keep it that way. Maybe there are miles between us, or a silence that started small and grew. Maybe there are old wounds we walk around at holidays. Whatever the distance, Lord — You can cross it.

So bless them today, wherever they are. Prosper their work. Guard their health. Be near them in the struggles they may never tell me about. If they don't know You, draw them gently. If they're carrying something heavy, help them — and if I'm supposed to be the help, nudge me hard.

And soften whatever needs softening in me first. Make me quick to call, slow to score-keep, first to apologize even when it's not all my fault. We started life in the same family, Lord. Let us finish it as friends.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on your sibling's birthday, after a phone call — good or tense — or whenever they cross your mind and you're not sure why. If the relationship is strained, pray it anyway; God often works on the one praying first.

A Verse to Hold On To

"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." — Proverbs 17:17 (KJV)
