A Prayer for My Teenager

Father, You see my teenager tonight — the one behind the closed door, the one I love more than I can say and understand less than I used to.

These are the shaping years, Lord. Be in them.

While they figure out who they are, let the deepest answer come from You: made on purpose, loved without conditions, worth more than any number of likes. Don't let a screen or a cruel comment write their identity.

Guard their friendships. Bring them companions who pull them toward good, and give them the spine to walk away from what they know is wrong — even when walking away costs them.

Keep their faith alive through the questions. If they doubt, let them doubt out loud in safe places, and meet them there the way You always meet honest seekers. Make their faith their own, not just an echo of mine.

Protect them where I can't follow — in cars and parties and group chats, in the quiet battles I may never hear about. Cover them, body and mind and heart.

And Lord, keep the door open between us. Give me ears quick to listen and a tongue slow to lecture. Help me stay calm when they test me, and let our home be the place they can always come back to — no matter the hour, no matter the mess.

I loved them first, but You loved them before that. I trust You with my child.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this outside their bedroom door, in the car after drop-off, or in the long minutes before a curfew. Many parents pray it nightly through the teenage years — short seasons of friction, long arc of love.

A Verse to Hold On To

"And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children." — Isaiah 54:13 (KJV)
