A Prayer for My Husband in a Difficult Season

Father, my husband is in a hard season, and I can see it wearing on him. He carries it the way he carries everything — quietly, and mostly alone. But You see all of it. So I bring him to You.

Meet him in the middle of this, Lord. In the setback he didn't deserve, in the door that closed, in the discouragement that follows him from the morning into the night. Do not let this season convince him that he is a failure. He is not. He is a good man walking through a hard stretch, and You have never once looked away from him.

Give him one small mercy at a time — a decent night's sleep, a bit of good news, a friend who calls at the right moment. And give him the strength that doesn't come from himself, the kind You give to men who are all out of their own.

Show me how to walk beside him. When to speak and when to be quiet, when to help and when to simply stay close. Let him never doubt that I'm not going anywhere.

And on the other side of this — because there is another side — let us look back and see that You were here the whole time.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this during a job loss, a health scare, a grief, or any stretch where he's not himself. If the season involves depression or drinking, keep praying — and gently encourage him toward a doctor or counselor, too. Getting help is strength, not weakness.

A Verse to Hold On To

"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee." — Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
