A Prayer for Depression

Lord, I don't have much to bring You today. The color has gone out of things. Food, sleep, people, prayer — it all feels far away, like I'm watching my life through glass.

I won't pretend to feel what I don't feel. But I believe — or I want to believe — that You are here even when I feel nothing. Your presence does not depend on my ability to sense it.

So stay close, God. Closer than the fog. Do for me what I cannot do for myself: keep my heart beating toward hope.

Bless the people helping me carry this — the friend who texts, the doctor who listens, the counselor who does not flinch at the truth. Give me the humility to let them help.

I am not asking for the whole sky to clear today. Just enough light for one more step. And then, tomorrow, one more.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when depression has flattened everything and even praying feels like lifting a weight. You can pray it lying down, in pieces, or by reading it silently — God hears all of it. Depression is an illness, not a verdict on your faith; if the darkness ever turns toward thoughts of ending your life, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — it is free and open around the clock.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him." — Psalm 42:11 (KJV)
