A Prayer for Caregivers
Father, I bring You the caregivers — the ones who do the work most people never see. The daughter managing her mother's medications, the husband learning to cook soft foods, the friend who drives to every appointment, the aide who arrives before dawn, the nurse on her third night shift this week. You see every one of them, Lord. Let them know it today.
Caregiving is love with its sleeves rolled up — and it is tiring in ways that are hard to explain. The lifting and the laundry, the paperwork and the phone calls, the patience spent and re-spent, the grief that runs quietly underneath it all. Renew their strength, Father, the way You promised — like eagles rising, like mornings returning.
Guard their hearts against the slow erosions: resentment, when the work is unshared; guilt, when they take an hour for themselves; loneliness, when friends stop asking how it's going; the feeling of disappearing into someone else's illness. Speak to each one by name and say, "I see you. This matters. You are not alone."
Give them practical help — not someday, but soon. Send the neighbor with a meal, the sibling who finally shares the load, the respite care that actually comes through. And give them permission, Lord, to rest without apology, to ask for help without shame, to be human while they do this holy work.
When they wonder if any of it counts, remind them of Your promise: that what is done for the least and the weakest is done for You. Every basin of water carried, every midnight reassurance, every gentle word to a fading mind — received by You, Lord, as if done to You.

When to Pray This
Pray this for a caregiver you know — or over yourself, if you are the one giving the care. It fits family caregivers, professionals, and volunteers alike. If it names weariness you have been ashamed to admit, take that as permission: God is not disappointed in tired caregivers. He is proud of them.
