A Prayer for Nurses

Lord, thank You for nurses. Thank You for the ones who answer call lights at 3 a.m., who catch the small change in a patient's color, who explain the doctor's words a second time, slowly, who hold a stranger's hand because the family could not get there in time. So much of Your mercy in this world arrives wearing scrubs.

Strengthen their bodies, Lord — the backs that lift, the feet that ache, the eyes that stay sharp through a twelve-hour shift. Strengthen their minds against the weight of all they see and carry: the losses they absorb quietly and the shifts they cannot talk about at home.

Guard their compassion. Do not let exhaustion or short staffing harden what You made tender in them. Give them moments that remind them why they began — a recovered patient, a grateful family, a save that came just in time.

And when they clock out, Father, let them truly rest. Watch over their own families, and give back to them a measure of the care they spend on everyone else.

When to Pray This

Pray this for a nurse in your family, a nurse who cared for someone you love, or the whole profession on a hard day. If you are a nurse, pray it over yourself in the parking lot before a shift — and hear it as God's gratitude, not just ours.
