A Prayer the Night Before Surgery

Lord, tomorrow is the day, and tonight my mind will not sit still. I have signed the forms. I have followed the instructions. I have done everything they asked me to do. The only thing left is the hardest thing: to rest.

So I bring You this night, Father. Quiet the questions that circle in the dark — the ones about what could go wrong, the ones I would never say out loud. You know them all anyway. Take each one from my hands and hold it Yourself.

Thank You that tomorrow is not a surprise to You. You have already been in that operating room. You know my surgeon's name. You know the nurses who will be on shift, the instruments on the tray, the minute the procedure ends. Nothing about tomorrow will happen outside Your sight.

Bless my medical team as they sleep tonight too. Let them come in rested, focused, and ready. I am grateful, Lord, that You heal through trained hands — that their years of study are part of Your provision for me.

Be near the people who love me. They are pretending to be braver than they feel, just like I am. Give us all Your peace tonight — the kind that doesn't depend on knowing how things turn out, but on knowing who holds them.

Now, Lord, help me lay it all down. I will both lie down in peace and sleep, because You alone make me dwell in safety. Wake me calm. Walk me through tomorrow. And whatever the day brings, keep me in Your keeping.

Pray this as the last thing you do before turning off the light the night before an operation. If sleep won't come, pray the final stanza again slowly, phrase by phrase.
