A Prayer for a Struggling Marriage

Lord, our marriage is struggling, and I am tired of pretending it isn't. You see the silences at the dinner table. You hear the arguments, and the harder thing — the not-arguing, the careful distance we keep so nothing breaks. I don't have the strength to fix this by myself. So I am asking You to come into the middle of it.

Soften my heart first, Lord. Before I list what my spouse has done, show me my own part — the sharp words, the withheld kindness, the walls I built and called protection. Forgive me. And make me brave enough to say "I'm sorry" out loud, at the kitchen table, without a "but."

Soften their heart too. Heal the wounds we have given each other, the old ones we never talk about and the fresh ones from this week. Where trust has been broken, rebuild it slowly and honestly. Where love has gone quiet, wake it up again.

Give us the humility to get help if we need it — a wise counselor, a pastor, a couple further down the road. Reaching for help is not the end of a marriage, Lord; let it be the beginning of a better one.

Remind us of what we promised, and of why we promised it. Remind us of the two people who stood up in front of everyone and believed this could work. You were there that day. You are here now.

I am not asking You to make it easy. I am asking You to make it possible — one honest conversation, one small kindness, one forgiven evening at a time. Hold what You have joined together, Lord, because right now we cannot hold it alone.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the hard middle of things — after an argument, in the quiet car, on the nights you sleep back to back. Praying it doesn't replace the honest conversations or the counselor's office; it gives you the courage to walk into them.

A Verse to Hold On To

"The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." — Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
