A Prayer for Closeness with My Spouse
Lord, nothing is wrong, exactly — and yet we feel far apart. We pass each other in the hallway, we manage the calendar, we say goodnight. Somewhere in all the doing, we stopped finding each other.
Draw us close again. Help me put the phone down and really look at the person I once couldn't stop looking at. Give us questions to ask each other that aren't about errands, and time enough to hear the answers.
Rebuild our friendship, Lord — the laughing kind, the talking-too-late kind. Warm what routine has cooled. Teach my hands and my words to say, every day, "I still choose you."
You made the two of us one. Keep making us one, again and again, for as long as we both shall live.
