A Prayer for Newlyweds

Lord, bless this new marriage. Two lives have become one home, and everything is still being learned — whose family hosts the holidays, who cooks, who worries.

Give them patience for the adjusting, laughter for the mishaps, and tenderness for the first hard conversations. Teach them early that "I was wrong" and "I forgive you" are the strongest words in a marriage.

Build their house on You, Lord, so that whatever storms come later find it standing. Let the love that filled their wedding day grow quieter, deeper, and stronger every year.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this over a couple at their wedding or rehearsal dinner, tuck it into a card, or pray it as newlyweds yourselves in your first weeks of married life.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." — Genesis 2:24 (KJV)
