A Prayer for Loneliness
God who sees me — that is Your name, and tonight I need it to be true.
The house is quiet, Lord. My phone is quiet. I've been in rooms full of people and still felt like a window, looked through, not looked at. Loneliness doesn't shout. It just sits down beside me and stays.
So I'm telling You, because You asked me to bring You everything: I am lonely.
Your Word says You are nigh to the brokenhearted. Not watching from far off. Nigh. Near. Here. Closer than the silence, closer than the ache. Let me feel that nearness tonight — not as an idea, but as company.
Thank You that Jesus knows this feeling from the inside. He was left by His friends on His hardest night. When I pray to You, I am not explaining loneliness to a stranger.
And Lord, when I'm ready — maybe even today — give me the small courage connection requires. One text sent. One call answered. One invitation accepted. Put a person on my heart, and nudge me toward them. Maybe someone else is sitting in a quiet house too, waiting for exactly the hello I could give.
Until then, keep me company. You set the lonely in families; I trust You to be building mine, slowly, in ways I can't yet see.
I am not as alone as I feel. Help me believe it.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this in the quiet hours when loneliness feels heaviest — evenings and Sundays, often. If you can, follow it with one small act of reaching out to a single person today; prayer and a hello work well together. And if loneliness has settled into something darker and constant, talking to a counselor or your doctor is a wise and faithful step, not a failure of prayer.
A Verse to Hold On To
"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." — Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
